Getting to Know: Nate Kelly

By GANNON STEPHENS

Nate Kelly is a Senior on the Penn Kingsmen Baseball Team.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned through Athletics?: The most important lesson I’ve learned is to enjoy the good moments while you have them. Eventually they’ll be gone.

How do mentally prepare yourself for each game?: My mental preparation is basically just telling myself I can do anything I put my mind to.

Who is a player (at any level) you look up to, and why?: Kobe for sure. Kobe has always been my favorite athlete. Besides M.J., I don’t think anyone really had that killer instinct/mentality Kobe had, that’s why I look up to him.

What do you love about representing Penn High School?:  I love wearing the Penn jersey and showing everybody we can really play.

What traits do you love in a team leader?: Definitely charisma. When I was a freshman/sophomore, I always admired our seniors because they were so charismatic.

What advice would you give a freshman about Penn Athletics?: Don’t be too hard on yourself. You need to play loose to play good. But, also, don’t be overly confident. Nobody likes a freshman that’s really full of themselves.

What is your favorite sports movie, and why?: “Rocky”. It’s a classic.

What is your favorite restaurant, and why?: Probably Carrabba’s. My mom is full-blood Italian, so we always eat Italian food. I’ve been eating at Carrabba’s for over 10 years probably.

What do you love most about baseball and why?: Meeting people. I’ve made some great friends through baseball.

What is your second favorite sport?: Basketball. I love some pick-up basketball. Also, because it’s a way easier sport than baseball.
