Getting to Know: Eli Shumaker

Eli Shumaker is a goalie for the Penn Hockey Team.

How do you handle the pressure of big games, especially as a goaltender?: Mentally reset.  You can’t keep thinking about what happened in the last play of the game and must focus on what’s happening in front of you.

What is your favorite part about being a goalie?: The challenges that come with it, the ability to change the outcome of the game and also being able to shift the momentum into your team’s favor.

What made you want to be a goalie instead of a player?: When I first started playing, no one ever wanted to play goalie, I volunteered to play and fell in love with the position and always have felt the same way.

What is one piece of advice you would give to young goaltenders?: Have fun, no matter how the game is going whether winning or losing, it’s just a game.

What’s your favorite part of the Penn hockey club?: The brotherhood and the camaraderie that comes with it.

What is your favorite NHL team?: The Vegas Golden Knights.

Do you have any plans for life after high school?: Attending a college.

What’s your favorite part of Penn High School?: The friends that you can make and the variety of classes you are able to take.

What are you most looking forward to in your hockey career?: Winning championships with the team and being able to further my career past high school.

What are your goals for the future? To play hockey in college or juniors and continue playing.
