Football: Kingsmen rally falls short vs. Elkhart

A two-point conversion attempt by Penn with one second left fell short, and Elkhart held on for a 20-19 victory on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020.

The Kingsmen fought back from a 20-6 halftime deficit.

Alec Hardrict sprinted 46 yards for Penn’s first TD.

Kyle Riffel smashed into the end zone from the one, and Ryan Majerek kicked the extra point to cut Elkhart’s lead to 20-13 with 7:27 left in the third quarter.

Tye Zahner blocked a field-goal attempt with 8:22 left in the fourth quarter to give Penn the ball at its 16.

Zahner came up big again when he intercepted a pass at the Penn 15 and returned it to the Penn 33 with 3:21 left in the fourth quarter, setting the stage for Penn’s final drive.

Carson Mumaw snared a pass from Ron Powlus for an 18-yard gain to the Elkhart 37 with 1:01 left in the game.

Nick Favilla caught a pass from Ron Powlus for 19 yards on fourth-and-2 for a first down with :19 left, putting the ball at the Elkhart 2.

Carson Mumaw scored on a 2-yard pass from Ron Powlus to pull the Kingsmen within one point, 20-19.
