Softball: Looney looks to lead in her Senior season

Harmony Looney ready for senior season

By KAITLYN VARGO

Harmony Looney is a successful Penn girl’s softball player who contributed a .232 batting average, three homers, and 17 RBIs to a successful Kingsmen season in 2022. Penn won Northern Indiana Conference, Sectional and Regional Championships last season.

Now a Senior committed to Bethel University, Looney is seeking to help the Kingsmen chase more championships in 2023.

Looney has spent her time in the Penn Softball Program the last four years doing something she loves while making plenty of friends along the way.

Why did you choose softball over other sports?

“I chose softball over other sports because I was the youngest girl in my family with three older brothers and they all played baseball, so I grew up around the sport and was surrounded by it and fell in love.”

Why do you think Penn softball can have a successful season this year?

“I think Penn softball could be successful this year because of the strong group of girls we have.”

What do you do in the offseason to improve your game?

“To improve my game, I go out to an empty field with my dad to hit and pitch.”

Why did you choose Bethel University?

“I chose Bethel University because it was close to home and I could see it being my second home.”

What do you feel your responsibilities are as a senior leader?

“Some responsibilities are making all the new players feel welcome and comfortable in their new place on the team.”

Why did you choose to be a manager in Boys Basketball?

“I chose to be a basketball manager because it was something that was out of my comfort zone and genuinely seemed fun to do.”

What have you gained from that experience that can help you in softball or life?

“I have gained lots of new friendships and a change of environment. This can help me to better adapt to new places.”

What do you appreciate about your Penn softball experience?

“I appreciate all the time that I get to spend doing something I love.”
