Penn Girls Varsity Basketball Team Prepares For The New 2022 Season

Penn Girls Basketball opens up the start of the new season this Thursday, Nov. 3, as the Kingsmen travel to La Porte to take on the Slicers.

Last year, the Penn Kingsmen’s overall record was 19-7, ranking 34th in the state, and 23rd in state division. Head coach, Krisiti Ulrich hopes to lead these girls to another winning season, improving their rankings from last year.

Varsity Player Karleisha Echols starts off the new season putting in all her effort and time improving her skills.

“I get in the gym and grind with my teammates. Working on our ball handling, shooting, passing, learning the plays, and studying the teams we are going to be playing and just grinding out,” Echols said.

2021-2022 Top point players were Jessa Troy, Lauren Welsh, and Reese Stauffacher.

Stauffacher’s first, last game against the LaPorte Slicers gets her excited for this upcoming game and how the season is gonna turn out.

“I’m most excited to see how the team turns out because everyone is doubting us and we want to prove them wrong,” Stauffacher said.

The Penn Girls Basketball 2021-22 season ended their season at 9-2 losing their playoffs against Crown Point, 47-42. Hoping this year that the Penn Girls Basketball team makes it to the championship game, these girls have confidence in how well they are going to be playing this first upcoming game.

“Consistency and communication helps the team improve their strengths and weaknesses,” Team Manager Arianna Holiday said.

“Consistency by coming in to practice everyday, working hard and ready to be even better than yesterday, and communication by being able to communicate with teammates and coaches on and off the court to understand things. I go to basketball everyday and make sure our girls or coaches don’t have to worry about anything except locking in and focusing on basketball and working with teammates to get better,” Holiday said.
