Wrestling: Black-and-Gold battles scheduled for Penn

The Penn wrestling team will host the Black and Gold wrestle-offs on Wednesday, Nov. 22, inside Penn High School’s Main Arena at 6:30 p.m.

The Black-and-Gold actions determines the 14 varsity wrestlers for Penn and showcases the Long Black Line. The wrestle-offs are wrestling matches between Penn wrestlers to determine who will wrestle varsity at each weight class.

The Long Black Line represents all Penn wrestling alumni. 

Before diving into the wrestle-offs, The Long Black Line will all come out and be honored. After the introductions, a few past wrestlers will be inducted into the Penn Wrestling Hall of Fame. After that. wrestle-offs will begin starting at the 106 weight class. 

This year’s 2023-2024 season will also be different because of weight class changes made by the IHSAA. Nothing has changed from the 106-pound to 138-pound weight classes. But after 138lbs, expect change:

2023-2024 New weight classes (in pounds):

  • 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285/heavyweight
