Getting to know: A.J. Steenbeke

A.J. Steenbeke is a freshman and a State Finalist wrestler at 160 pounds for the Kingsmen.

What age did you start wrestling at and why?: I started in third grade because some of my friends said they were going to do it.

Is weight cutting difficult for you?: No, I usually go up to the next weight class.

Before big matches, are you more nervous or more calm and relaxed?: I am more calm and relaxed because I don’t care if I lose when I tried my hardest.

What are your expectations for the rest of the wrestling season for Penn?: I expected to place at state for this year.

What is your biggest accomplishment so far with wrestling?: Probably winning the triple crown for Indiana

Who has been influential in your wrestling career: My coach, Tom Dolly, because he was the one who taught me for my first eight years of wrestling.

Do you wrestle for other teams outside of Penn, if so, which one(s)?: Yes, I have wrestled for many teams but now I usually wrestle for Team Schutt and Team Indiana.
