Penn stuns two-time defending Sectional champion Northridge

Penn stunned two-time defending Sectional champion Northridge, 45-40, in the semi-final round of the Elkhart High School Boys Basketball Sectional on Friday, March 5.

Penn avenged a 72-64 regular-season loss, holding Northridge to a season-low 40 points.

Coach Al Rhodes and the Kingsmen advance to the Sectional Championship Game – 7 p.m., Saturday, March 6, at Elkhart’s historic Northside Gym.

Markus Burton dealt out a double-double for the Kingsmen – 15 points, 13 rebounds. Burton also had five assists and three steals.

Joe Smith swished four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Caleb Applegate scored 7 points. The Senior hit two free throws with :13 left to give Penn a 45-40 lead.

Casey Shultz scored 6 points and battled for 6 rebounds.

PENN 45: Markus Burton 15, Joe Smith 12, Jayden Doster 0, DelRontay Haywood 2, Caleb Applegate 7, Gabe Gatete 3, Casey Shultz 6, Cole Wojciechowski 0.

Northridge 40: Trevor Brown 0, Carter Stoltzfus 8, Clay Stoltzfus 5, Micah Hochstetler 2, Sam Smith 14, Brandon Miller 2, Jesse Ryman 0, Blake Jacobs 9.
