Boys Basketball: Groves leads Penn past Elkhart Memorial

Penn boasted five players in double-figures as the Kingsmen ran past Elkhart Memorial, 90-57, in high school boys basketball action on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019.

It was the final regular-season contest between Penn and Elkhart Memorial, as Elkhart Memorial and Elkhart Central will merge to form Elkhart High School in 2020-2021. Penn leads the series 42-26. Penn and Elkhart Memorial are both in the Class 4-A Elkhart Sectional.

Senior Guard Evan Groves led the Kingsmen with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting (including 4-of-4 three-pointers).

Derek Derda worked for a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Jayden Doster scored 15 points, Carter Hickey scored 14 points, and Tobias Patton scored 10 points.

Penn hit 13-of-20 three-pointers and shot 54 percent overall (33-of-61).
