Kailey Gomez brings spirit to #KingsmenNation

The bright stadium lights shine down on the field at Penn High School as the crowd roars on a Friday night. On the sidelines, Kailey Gomez smiles and calls out cheers, keeping the energy high for the team and the fans. But once the game ends, Gomez’s cheerleading responsibilities are far from over.

Gomez balances two demanding roles: Penn High School sideline cheer and competitive All-Star cheer outside of school. While sideline cheer focuses on supporting school sports teams and leading the crowd, All-Star cheer requires intense routines, tumbling passes, and high-level stunts performed at competitions. According to the USA Cheer, All-Star cheerleading emphasizes athletic performance, teamwork, and complex choreography.

“Some days are really busy, because I go from school practice straight to All-Star practice,” Gomez said. “It can be tiring, but I love cheering, so it’s worth it.”

Balancing both teams means Gomez spends many hours each week practicing and preparing. She has to stay organized to manage homework, games, and competitions. Despite the busy schedule, Gomez believes the two types of cheer help her grow as an athlete.

“All-Star cheer pushes me to improve my skills, and sideline cheer lets me support my school and have fun with my team,” she explained.

The National Federation of State High School Associations notes that high school cheerleaders play an important role in building school spirit and supporting athletic programs. Gomez embraces that role every time she steps onto the sideline.

For Gomez, cheerleading is more than just a sport. Whether she is competing at an All-Star event or cheering under the stadium lights at Penn, she proves that dedication and passion can help balance even the busiest schedule.
