Penn High School Athletic Director Jeff Hart announced that Al Hartman has been named the head coach of the Penn Girls Golf Program. He replaces Brian Matthews, who resigned due to new-job commitments after two seasons as the Penn Girls Golf head coach.

Hartman has been the Penn Boys Golf head coach for two seasons.

“As I mentioned when we hired Coach Hartman to lead our Boys program, he brings a resume built on success both on and off the course,” Penn Athletic Director Jeff Hart said. “He has coached multiple state placers, including two individual state champions, and has been named Conference Coach of the Year three times. In addition, his experience as a longtime Athletic Director and his extensive knowledge of IHSAA golf policies and procedures helped him stand out as an exceptional candidate. We’re excited to watch him lead and grow this program.”

Hartman, who graduated from Penn in 1983, is looking forward to also coaching the Penn Girls Golf Team. The Kingsmen own four State Championships in Girls Golf.

“I am excited and privileged to take over such an accomplished program at Penn High School,” Hartman said. “I look forward to working with these young athletes.”

Hartman was the Athletic Director at South Bend Clay High School and has coached golf for more than 20 years. He also coached wrestling for 26 seasons and coached football for 15 seasons.

As a Kingsmen Athlete, Hartman was a state finalist in track and wrestling.

Coach Hartman has coached four NIC Championships in golf, and is a three-time NIC Golf Coach of the Year.

Hartman coached two-time state champion Jeremy Wilkinson for South Bend Clay. Wilkinson went on to be the No. 1 Golfer at LSU.
