Chase Pinkert is one of the Penn Boys soccer forwards this season and has been making a big contribution with his goals and assists this season.
What do you think Penn’s biggest advantage is over other teams this year?: We’ve really created a team mentality while having each other’s backs. I think the chemistry we have this year is more developed than any year previous.
How has this big start to the season motivated you guys for the rest of the year?: We’ve really focused on channeling this momentum from our great start and making sure it continues throughout the season. These past seven games have made many of us realize that we really are a good team and have a great shot at success.
Describe your relationship with your teammates: This year, it really feels like we’re one big family. I’ve known many of my teammates since I was a child, and the others that I’ve met, I’ve grown very close with. We all make sure to hang out outside of school so we’re not just interacting on the soccer field.
How do you spend your time when you’re not playing or practicing?: I like to create a balance between school/soccer, and other activities. I like to golf or play cards with friends often. I also enjoy going up to a lake and tubing or jetskiing.
What do you do to stay academically motivated during the school year?: I focus on getting my academic work done before soccer, because school comes first. I make sure to stay on top of assignments and study for upcoming tests or quizzes.
How do you balance academics and athletics?: It often comes naturally because I’ve done it for the past three years, but one of the biggest skills I’ve had to utilize is time management. I make sure to plan out when I’ll do homework in relation to whatever my soccer schedule is for the day.
If you didn’t play soccer, what would you play and why?: I would either choose golf because I enjoy playing it as a hobby, or lacrosse, because I know many kids on the team.
What is your favorite pregame music and why?: It really depends on my mood pregame, but I listen to artists like The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, or Bryson Tiller before most games.
Who is your favorite soccer team and why?: My favorite soccer team would have to be Chelsea, because they have legends like Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke.
What is your goal for the rest of the season?: Obviously, the biggest goal is to bring home a state championship, but above that, I want to create a strong team bond that will lead us to success next season as well.
