Penn Athletics Review April 19-24

Penn Kingsmen Athletic Teams owned the spotlight at high-profile venues.
The Penn Boys Track Team earned the Team Championship of the prestigious Goshen Relays for just the second time in school history. The Kingsmen won the title by a half-point, scoring 100.5 points to runner-up Northridge’s 100 points. Vincent Nierzwicki-Trifiletti won three blue ribbons and was named the meet MVP.
Nicole Marshall won two blue ribbons to help the Penn Girls Track team place second in the Lady Kingsmen Invitational. Kennedy Szabo, Julie Smith, Julia Economou and Haley Makowski also won blue ribbons.
The Penn Baseball Team dominated the Crosstown Clash against Mishawaka at the South Bend Cubs ballpack. The Kingsmen decked the Cavemen 14-6. Ryne Buckley hammered a three-run homer, and Nate Kelly blasted a solo homer. The Kingsmen also beat Elkhart last week, 11-0. Ben Gregory, Hunter Mrozinski and Josh Slabaugh combined on a one-hit shutout.
Penn Softball earned impressive victories at the Carmel Invitational on Saturday. The Kingsmen knocked off Indianapolis Cathedral 9-4, and defeated Castle 7-4. Earlier in the week, Aubrey Zachary and Monica Ramirez combined on a no-hitter in an 11-0 win against Elkhart. Zachary struck out seven.
Penn Boys Lacrosse won two games in dramatic fashion. The Kingsmen defeated Crown Point 7-6 in overtime, with Aidan O’Connell rifling in the game-winner. On Saturday, Penn beat Mattawan in overtime, 7-6. Nolan Strefling fired in the game-winner.
Penn Girls Lacrosse beat Culver Academy 11-5. Sequoia Deleu and Juli Kirkpatrick scored 4 goals each to power the Kingsmen effort.
Penn Rugby mauled Culver Academy, 39-20. Zach Lane led Penn with two scores. Wally Kennach, Dylan Welty, Jon Wise and Carson Houser each scored one. Tanner Sousley had two conversions.
The Penn Girls Tennis Team celebrated Senior Night with a 4-1 victory against Valpo. Winners for the Kingsmen included Jamie Hurst, Mandy Baker 6-3, Sophia Pischalko, Marley Kryder and Neely Langfeldt. The Kingsmen also swept Elkhart last week, winning 5-0.
Penn Boys Golf defeated Riley 156-263. The Kingsmen placed second in the power-packed Lake Central Invite. Penn placed ahead of state powers Carmel, South Bend St. Joseph and Culver Academy. Jonah Kumfer led Penn with a score of 69.
