While most eyes are on the new field house being constructed down the road, the Kingsmen campus saw yet another upgrade with a new track being put in over the summer.
Assistant athletic director and assistant track coach Marie Doan said that the new surface on the eight-lane track will benefit Kingsmen athletes and competitors from other schools.
Coach Doan stated that a big goal of the track installment was to reduce injuries among the athletes.
“You don’t have to worry about cracks or patches tripping athletes up, and the actual surface should not pound the athletes’ legs as much as an old surface does,” Doan said.
A unique feature of the track is the different shade of the exchange zones, which is the area on the track where the baton is passed for the 4×100 meter relay.
This new coloring will give the competitors an advantage by helping both athletes and coaches see the exchange zones more easily than before.
