Former Penn Football and Wrestling standout Jerimiah Maggart has competed and coached at a championship level wearing the Black and Gold.
Now, Maggart will take the lead in ushering in a new chapter in Penn’s storied Athletics tradition.
Maggart has been named the head coach of the Penn Girls Flag Football program. In May, the IHSAA voted Girls Flag Football as an emerging sport, a major step toward officially sanctioning the sport.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to be named the first head coach of the Penn Girls Flag Football Team,” Maggart said. “I wanted this position because I’m passionate about coaching and football. I feel this is an exciting challenge to start something from the scratch and see how we can build to reach the highest level.
“We have great female athletes at Penn and the standard for Penn Athletics is excellence both athletically and academically,” Maggart said. “Our Flag Football program will have the same standard and strive to compete at the highest level right away.”
Tryouts start on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025.

A 2007 Penn graduate, Maggart joined the Penn faculty staff in the 2024-2025 school year as Fitness/Health/Strength and Conditioning instructor. He spent seven years as a PE Teacher and head coach for Boys and Girls Wrestling at Jimtown High School. Maggart also coached at North Montgomery and Manchester. He is a graduate of Purdue University.
Maggart will work to grow the Girls Flag Football program starting with a Varsity team. He hopes to add a Junior Varsity team by the 2026 season, and wants to see youth and middle school programs implemented in the next couple of years.
Penn boasts one of Indiana’s proudest Football traditions, and Maggart is excited to see that the playing experience is being expanded to all students.
“Football is such a great game that young men have been able to enjoy for a long time,” Maggart said. “Now that girls finally have an opportunity to play is amazing. I want players to work hard, have fun and develop life skills that will help them become successful adults.”
