Penn High’s Wrestling Team sent a contingent of eight wrestlers to the IHSAA State Championships on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021.
Matteo Vargo placed fifth in the state at 126 – posting a 3-1 record in his championship bouts.
Pate Eastin placed seventh in the state at 170.
Dylan Bennett, Bryce Denton, James Smith, A.J. Steenbeke, Peyton Kendall and Brock Donati also competed in the state finals.
The Penn High School Boys Swim/Dive Team won its third consecutive Sectional Championship and 20th in program history.
Kingsmen swimmers won seven Sectional events and set four Sectional records at the Kingsmen pool on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Aaron Dies won three blue ribbons and set three Sectional Records.
Connor Craig, Joel Cummins each won three blue ribbons and set two Sectional records.
Joe Radde, Matthew Howell and Kyle Brothers each won two blue ribbons and set one Sectional Record.
Tomas Salas won one blue ribbon.
The Penn Boys Basketball Team waged a fierce battle but lost to host Elkhart, 56-47, at historic Northside Gym on Friday, Feb. 19. Senior Caleb Applegate led the Kingsmen with 12 points. Sophomore Markus Burton scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists.
