Kendall Courtney is a sophomore player on Penn Softball’s Junior Varsity Black team. She is a right-handed pitcher with speed on the bases. When Courtney is not pitching, she plays in centerfield using her speed and arm. She started playing softball at the age of seven.
What’s your favorite highlight of Psb?
“My favorite highlight of psb is game days when everyone is hyped up and the energy is good.”
How do you practice when it’s too cold outside?
“When it’s really cold outside I keep a coat and hoodie on until it’s time to practice and get in the mental state that I can play through anything and can always be colder.”
As a pitcher, what is your favorite pitch? Why?
“My favorite pitch to throw is a hnagup because I love to see how effective it is against my hitters.”
What pitch is your least favorite? Why?
“My least favorite pitch is probably mt rise ball because a lot of the time it’s to high and hitters lay off.”
What makes you excited for this 2025 season?
“I’m excited for the 2025 season because I think my mental state has improved since last year and I’m excited to play with new people.”
What do you do to keep yourself in shape when the season hasn’t started?
“During the off season I constantly go to the gym to do mini workouts. I also go to pitching and hitting lessons.”
If you weren’t a pitcher what position would you play and why?
“If I wasn’t a pitcher I would probably be a catcher because I used to catch and I’ve always thought it was a cool position.”
What are your game day traditions?
“My game day traditions are having and Alani before every game and I can’t go a game without one now.”
If you could tell your younger self anything what would it be?
“If I could tell my younger self anything it would be not to be so hard on myself and that softball is just a game it’s not who you are because when I was younger I definitely struggled with the mental side of softball.”
As a pitcher do you still hit? If so what is your favorite bat to use?
“Yes I still hit, I’m more of a contact hitter but I’m getting better at that and my favorite bats to use are definitely the ghost bats, right now I use the OG Easton ghost.”
