Penn High school softball player Ashlyn Kronewitter will be attending Indiana University of Indianapolis next year to continue her academic and athletic careers. Kronewitter helped Penn Softball earn the coveted blue rings as 2023 state champions.
Kronewitter chose Indiana University of Indianapolis because of the atmosphere. Not only will it provide her with a new home to play softball, but IUI also has a great dental program.
“I chose IUI because when I visited, everything just clicked, the atmosphere, the campus, the academic opportunities, and the softball program,” Kronewitter said. “With that being said the dental program stood out to me right away, and I felt confident that I’d get the education I need to achieve my career goals. The coaches were also incredibly supportive and made me feel at home, which was important to me. It’s not just about playing softball but also about finding a place where I can grow as a student and a person, and IUI provides that environment.”
Kronewitter helped the Penn Softball Team in 2023 with a batting average of .382 and had five stolen bases, In 2024, she had a batting average of .302 and 8 stolen bases. In 2024, she also had 21 RBIs.
“Penn Softball has been everything for me when it comes to preparation,” Kronewitter said of being prepared for the next level. “It taught me how to handle high-pressure situations, how to be resilient, and what it takes to be part of a successful team. Competing at a high level every day really sharpened my skills, and the culture of hard work and dedication at Penn helped shape me into the player I am today. I learned how to embrace challenges, how to lead by example, and how to push through the toughest moments.”
Penn Softball head coach Beth Zachary and her staff are happy for Kronewitter’s commitment.
“We are thrilled for Ashlyn’s recent commitment to Indiana University of Indianapolis,” Zachary said. “Ashlyn will play softball at the D1 level and pursue her goal to become a Dentist all at once. Ashlyn has the biggest smile, great game IQ, incredible speed, the ability to track the back well in the outfield, and she is a 4-tool slapper (power and speed).”
Coach Zachary has no doubt that Ashlyn will make a positive impact right away to the IUI program.
