Junior Maddie Calvin plays third base for the Penn Kingsmen Softball Team. She hit .289 last season and drove in 17 runs.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?: The best advice that I have ever received it to always put your all into what you do. You can never have regrets if you put in 100 percent effort.
If somebody is new to the sport of softball, what advice would you give them?: If someone was new to the sport, I would say the best thing you can do is watch others and practice on your own. Just the other week a new player showed up to our workout and she was new to the sport. I told her the best thing she could do was watch others and ask questions.
What is the best aspect of your game?: The best part of softball is the relationships you gain from the sport. Having a relationship with your teammates is a very important factor to the outcomes of the games. Although there are individual moments within the game, in the end working as a team is the most important part.
Favorite thing about Penn Softball?: My favorite thing about Penn Softball are the opportunities we are given. Our reputation is very good and that allows us to travel and play against competitive schools.
Any pre-game rituals?: My pre-game ritual is not having a ritual.
If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?: I would eat Shepherds Pie.
How do you like to spend your free time?: I like spending my free time hanging out and shopping with friends.
Favorite animal?: My favorite animal is a cat.
Favorite TV/Netflix show?: My favorite Netflix show is “Stranger Things”.
What is your best childhood memory?: My best childhood memory is going to Germany and getting to experience the culture and history there. A very interesting part of the trip was going to Dachau, a concentration camp in Germany.
