Softball: Fall Ball prepares Kingsmen for Spring season

Penn Softball does not hit the brakes when it comes to Fall Ball. Practices and workouts have continued to set the groundwork for this upcoming 2026 season.

Senior catcher and first baseman Phoebe Wood pointed out the importance of Fall practices.

“Our fall practices are super beneficial to our health, staying in shape, and gives us a great chance to practice how we are going to play in season,” Wood said.

Wood also noted the advantages of having a big group of girls by explaining how scrimmaging often has helped work out some kinks and is preparing them for the season.

“Because of the attention to detail and intensity every player shows up with, we are bound to be set up for success this spring,” Wood explained optimistically.

Penn Softball Head Coach Beth Zachary goes deeper into what she has been focusing on implementing this fall.

“In the fall limited contact period, we specifically focus on skill development, building team culture, learning routines and expectations, and we play scrimmages to engage in live repetitions.”

Zachary also illustrated how “Real World Wednesdays” help the team grow and develop. They teach real-life skills and are used as opportunities to grow as individuals.

Fall workouts are crucial to developing the team and players all together. Coach Zachary elaborated on what she has these young athletes working on.

“We have the time in the fall to go slow, but dive deep, into routines, expectations, quality skill development, and we can provide repetitions and instruction to help our student-athletes learn and grow,” Zachary said.
