Softball: Denny ready for opportunity to excel

Penn Softball pitcher Caitlyn Denny has been working hard to get her opportunity to dominate this season for the Kingsmen.

After battling back-to-back ACL injuries, Denny turned in an outstanding Junior season.

Last season, Denny struck out 96 strikeouts and only allowed 30 walks in the 70 ⅔ innings she pitched for the Kingsmen.

Getting ready for this season, Denny has been working on strength and technique while prioritizing nutrition, which has helped her significantly in preparing for her final year here at Penn.

“Cait is strong, focused, and ready to lead our team and she doesn’t take any opportunity to play the game for granted,” Penn Softball Head Coach Beth Zachary said.

Denny believes she and the other seniors will work together to keep the team chemistry up and lead by example. She explained that by doing this, it will keep the team growing on the amazing bond that they already have. This alone will prepare the team on a deeper level.

This spring, Denny is excited to make more memories with her teammates as she jumps into the next chapter of her life. Denny has committed to pitch collegiately at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but is committed to being a strong Senior leader for the Kingsmen.

“I’m most looking forward to just giving my all every time I step on the field, for not only myself, but my teammates.”

Coach Zachary is also ready for this season and explains how the seniors will help drive the team to success. “Not only do they know the game and how we do things, they lead in the weight room, at Speed workouts, and in the classroom and community. We are excited for them to have an opportunity to grow in their leadership skills and we have no doubt they will have an amazing senior year.”
