Published on

The Penn Lady Kingsmen basketball team beat Mishawaka High School on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The final score ended up 63-12.

The game started off with Penn’s Addison Hummel, a 6-foot freshman, winning the tip-off to give Penn an early advantage. They took this and went with it.

Jessa Troy, a senior, scored the first points of the game, as she hit a 3-pointer.

Troy had a very impressive game, racking up many threes and leading the Lady Kingsmen with 24 points. Many others contribute greatly to the scoreboard.

Sophomore Alivia Dawson scored 12 points, Hummel scored 8 and Junior Anna Sachire added 6 points.

By the time Mishawaka scored its first points of the night, the Kingsmen were winning 19-0. Penn did not back down and kept the fire burning, ending the first quarter 24-2.

Gwen Eiler, a Penn Athlete and spectator of the game on Tuesday, gave insight into what the game was like.

“It was really fun to watch. Penn was creative on offense and when they were on defense, they were on point and Mishawaka hardly scored. Penn made almost every single shot they took,” Eiler said.

The first half of the game ended, proving Eiler’s point correct. The score was 44-6 going into halftime.

“It was a super fun game to play. We haven’t played them in a few years so it was fun to play in a pretty big rivalry game,” said Sachire.

The Penn girls showed their love for the sport and you could feel the energy from the team throughout. Near the end of the game, Penn Senior Lizzy Green hit a 3-pointer and fellow Senior Janiah Webster scored 2 points as well.

The team pushed hard until the very last buzzer, ending the game 63-12. Penn’s record is now 13-5.
