Jenavieve Nash: Motivation to Run and Push Through an Injury

Published on

Jenavieve Nash has gone from running in a state track meet to suffering a stress fracture injury in a matter of months. Nash is a sophomore who runs cross country for the Lady Kingsmen and is part of Penn Girls Track & Field (PGTF) team.

Nash’s running experience started last year as a freshman at Penn. She started with cross country in the fall and then went to run track in the spring and made varsity for both sports.

“I didn’t run cross country at all during middle school, but I started running cross country last year to help get better for track season,” Nash said.

Nash is currently going through a stress fracture injury that has been going on for almost a year. A stress fracture is a tiny crack in a bone caused by repeated stress or force, often from overuse. She is now taking time off from running to properly heal her stress fracture so that when track season comes around, she’ll be able to run.

Nash says her coaches and teammates motivate her to continue to train to be ready for the next season.

Since she’s unable to run, Nash is spending her free time doing other things she loves, including making gifts for people. Nash mentioned that for some of her crafts, she’s decorating a hoodie and also making flowers out of random different things.

Even though she’s unable to compete, Nash’s teammate Hannah Luck say she’s a valuable asset to the team.

“She is always happy and brings up the mood while we’re practicing or even at meets,” Luck said. “She’s funny and that whenever she’s around we always have a good time.” Luck said.
