Heartbreak on the Pitch: Girls Soccer Rivals’ Clash Ends in Defeat

Published on

Penn Girls Soccer fell short 2-1 in a thrilling soccer match against longtime rival Mishawaka Marian.

The Penn Lady Kingsman and their Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) rival played a tightly contested game.

Alexis Leader started the game off in the second half with a goal from an assist from Zoya Turk.

The Kingsmen held on to the lead for most of the half, until late in the second half when Marian Forward Daisy Moody scores off a corner from Kendall Bradley.

That sends the game into overtime, with nobody scoring for the remainder of the game.

In the first overtime of the evening, Gwen Eiler makes a save, but it’s later determined to be illegal. With Eiler’s first yellow card shown towards her in her high school career and a penalty kick being awarded to Marian, Janiah Juarez comes onto the field to replace Eiler.

Milana from Marian steps up to take the kick. Janiah almost saves it but it results in a goal for Marian, taking the lead 2-1. The Kingsmen do everything in their power to try to even the score, but nothing can bring them back from this deficit.

The game ends in a loss for the Penn Lady Kingsmen, falling short in overtime. They next face Warsaw on Thursday at 7 pm at Lionshead Specialty Tire and Wheel Field.
