Girls Track: Kingsmen claim NIC crown

Penn claims Girls Track & Field crown

By LUCAS WILLIAMS

The Penn Kingsmen Girls Track & Field team dominated the NIC Championship, competing against seven tough schools. South Bend Riley, South Bend Adams, South Bend Washington, South Bend St. Joseph, Elkhart, New Prairie, and Marian—the Kingsmen coming out on top in many events, scoring a massive 190.66 points and taking home first place in seven different events.

Sofia Ugwoke started things off by winning the 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds. In the distance events, Janine Mbianda won the 800-meter run (2:22.05), and Shreya Nayee crushed both the 1600 (5:10.23) and 3200-meter runs (11:01.60).

Penn’s relay teams were unstoppable. The 4×100 team of Emma Heintzelman, Zoya Turk, Brianna Brisco, and Sofia Ugwoke won in 49.70 seconds. The 4×400 team of Quinn Driscoll, Ella Neuenschwander, Zoya Turk, and Ugwoke won in 4:05.83. And the 4×800 team—Arianna Balinnang, Ella Neuenschwander, Aubrey Morgan, and Janine Mbianda—also took first.

As the sun set and medals were handed out, one thing was clear: the Kingsmen girls track team has earned their title as 2025 NIC Champions, and they did it in style.
