The Girls Track & Field Team is showing a promising sophomore class. Several starting varsity members are sophomores this year.
The Lady Kingsmen recently competed in a meet against Mishawaka & Mishawaka Marian. The meet was not scored, but the Penn girls competed well.
Sophomore Sofia Ugwoke is the Kingsmen’s star sprinter. She took home three blue ribbons from the meet in high jump, 200M and 100M. She says she is looking forward to improving herself this season.
“It’s about pushing myself and just focusing on what I’m doing,” Ugwoke said.
Janine Mbianda is another driving force behind the girls varsity team. She placed 3rd in the 400M, 10th in long jump and 5th in the 200M.
“It feels good placing high in a meet that wasn’t even scored.” says Mbianda.
Another star for the girl’s varsity team is fellow sophomore Ch’ Rya Newman. She competes in the 100M, 200M and long jump.
“I really just need to push myself and show what I am capable of,” says Newman.
The Lady Kingsmen will next take on South Bend Adams at home on Tuesday, Apr. 11.
