Penn High School Girls Soccer defeated No. 11 (2-A) Mishawaka Marian to claim the NIC athletics showdown on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The Kingsman remain undefeated (6-0-0) and move up to No. 5 in class 3-A.
The Kingsman started off strong in the first half with Gwen Eiler making crucial saves.
Late in the first half Kate Noonan took a corner kick for the Kingsman and Maddy Johnson gets a touch to Junior Anika Guenther who finished it to the back post to put the Kingsman up 1-0.
Senior defender Malaika Waithaka and Sophomore defender Rowan Moore had a dominant second half and continued to shut down the Marian offense.
Junior Megan Zhang took control of the midfield having herself another great game.
Gwen Eiler came in clutch for the Kingsmen in the second half earning herself a crucial shutout.
