Caitlyn Denny’s Come Back Story

Junior Caitlyn Denny tore her ACL while pitching. When she first heard the news, she felt defeated, but Denny knew she couldn’t let this injury consume her,  so she put her efforts in her faith to help her learn resilience.

Like any athlete, she wanted to get back to softball as soon as possible. From the moment she could walk and participate in physical therapy she used it as her fuel for motivation. Sadly in her sophomore year, Denny tore her ACL again at Marian High School while playing in a basketball game. She didn’t let that stop her though. She went straight back to the recovery process. Through her recovery process, she was supported by her family, making the process much better.

Denny’s motivation to continue to play softball is her love for the game. She looks forward to playing as long as she can. Denny has 100% trust in herself, her surgeon and physical therapist that this injury won’t happen again moving forward. She is now working to get better, so she can be back fully playing softball.

These two injuries have consumed most of her high school career in sports, but that didn’t stop her from being pulled up to varsity her freshman year. Denny also got the opportunity to go down to Purdue University with the varsity softball team to watch them play in the state championship game against Roncalli High School. The softball team secured that state win and Denny was able to celebrate with them on the field, she was even in full uniform representing her school.

Along with Denny’s softball career at Penn she has also played basketball for Penn during her freshman and sophomore year. While playing on the girls junior varsity basketball team they went 17-4 overall in her sophomore season. During her freshman season the Lady Kingsmen went 15-6 overall.

One of Denny’s close teammates and friend, Senior Olivia Signorinio, a pitcher for Penn, said, “Cait has been working really hard to get even better than where she was before the injury. She has shown a ton of improvement as she has come back, and her hard work is definitely paying off”.

Signorino talks about how Denny’s worth ethic inspires her to preserve and work hard all around. Denny is described at a driven and motivated girl with her priorities straight. As Denny has made clear she’s a very calm person which Signorino says she has this characteristic on the field too.

While coming up into the upcoming season she has no doubts, because of the work she put in with her doctors and coaches. Denny is currently in her junior year and there’s no doubt she’s not gonna make a statement this year in Penn Softball.
