Boys Track vs St. Joe Recap

On Wednesday, April 16, the Penn Boys Track Team took on South Bend St. Joseph. The Kingsmen’s depth prevailed in the end, leading to an 81-51 victory. 

St. Joe’s Samuel Harshman took the blue ribbon in the 100-meter Dash with a time of 11.19. Penn’s Reuban Rutland finished milliseconds later in 11.21. Penn’s Noah Lucas, Malachi Evans, and Tyler Stuk placed 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. 

The Kingsmen took first and third place in the 200-meter dash, thanks to the performances of Eli Stith(22.94) and Bradig Ditsch(23.97). Harshman would fall short in this event, taking second place. Other notable performances include Ethan St. Clair in fourth and Tyler Stuk in fifth. 

Penn saw less success in the 400-meter dash, however. St. Joe’s Jack Moran won the event in 52.77 seconds, with Keegan Zaber coming in second(54.42). 

In the 800-meter run, Penn’s Aiden Probst finished first with a time of 2:03.54. This was a breakout performance for Probst and an unexpected victory. Shahmeer Turk finished in second, and Gonzalo Serrano got third.

Aiden Probst said about his race, “ Just knew that I had to get out fast off the line and stay up in the front, keeping that position. It feels good to win, and having Shameer help pace for the first lap was great”. 

The 1600-meter run was a clean sweep for the Kingsmen. Penn took the top ten spots, and many runners had great days. Penn senior Tanner Mammolenti won the race in 4:30.56. Second place was Brayden Mainwaring, who ran a PR of 4:32.84. Mainwaring was followed by Jack Ryan, Brody Lederer, Kale Grewal, Kush Grewal, and many others.

Mainwaring said about his performance, “It was a good race, I think I paced really well and I am looking forward to next week”. 

The 3200 was won by St. Joe junior Max Elick. Penn took the next two spots thanks to Owen Newman and Nate Hannah.

St. Joe sophomore Will Elick won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Shamar Sampers took second in the 110 hurdles, and Noah Hoppers got second in the 300 hurdles.

Penn’s 4 by 1 team of Jaedon Parker, Kohen Turner, Bryan Forbes, and Kellen Watson won the event with a time of 42.63. 

Penn lost the 4 by 4, but their team of Tyler Rerick, Calvin Hart, Weston St. Clair, and Noah Shafer won the 4 by 8.

Tayshon Bardo won the High Jump, Mavric Poe won the Pole Vault, and Bryan Forbes won the long jump. This meant that Penn took first in each of the jump events. 

In the throws, Cade Stout won Shot Put with a mark of 48’ 3.5”. Ji’Lahni Kearse from St. Joe won the Discus with 150’ 10”.
