Boys JV Wrestling Meet at Goshen

This Saturday’s junior varsity wrestling meet at Goshen saw the Penn Kingsmen earn four first place medals. On top of that, the Kingsmen managed to secure 10 additional second place rankings.

The first place medal winner for the 215 B group, Caleb Evans, put up an especially impressive match. Evans’ first match was against Michael Messer of Prairie Heights. Evans managed to impressively defeat Messer via tech, the final score was 17-1 for Evans. After winning the quarter-finals, Evans would go on to face Daniel Loucks of FW Carroll in the semi-final matchup. This matchup would end swiftly with a victory for Evans seeing Loucks fall after 1:30 minutes. The first place match was between Evans and Jack Johnson of FW Carroll. Although slightly taking longer than the semi-finals match, Evans wins via fall after 1:46 minutes.

Fabian Miller had a successful performance in the 285A group which saw him earn his first place medal. Miller faced Parker Cousineau of FW Carroll for the quarter-final match, which ended swiftly before the first round at just 58 seconds into the match. For his semi-final match, Miller would face Taurian Adams of Elkhart. This match saw Miller win via fall after 1:00. For his 1st place match, Miller would face Irvin Meija of Concord. Once again, Miller would win via fall after 2:15, securing his well-earned first place medal.

“(Fabian) Miller’s matches were very hard fought battles. I am proud of how (Fabian) Miller didn’t give in, and showed spirit till the very end. I believe that he rightfully earned his spot at first place in his group,” JV Teammate Nooruldeen Al-Kilidar said.

Penn’s Nolan Jelenski would also shine in his 144B group. Jelenski’s first matchup for the quarter-finals was against FW Carroll’s Tyler Cheiri. Jelenski would go on to win via fall at 0:58 seconds. The momentum gained from the first round rolled to the semi-finals matchup, against Helal Wardak of Munster, which saw Jelenski win via fall after 3:19 minutes. Jelenski’s final matchup would be against Lee Barber of Columbia City. This hard fought battle ended up with Jelenski winning by major decision (12-4).

“Nolan fought hard out there for his first place medal. Especially during his first place game, Nolan fought hard and his triumph and spot at first place,” said teammate Malikeye Elliot.

Penn’s Noah Moore would also put up a great performance in the 190B group. Moore’s first matchup for the quarter-finals was against FW Carroll’s Grant Ungerer. Moore would go on to win via fall at 0:56 seconds. Moore would breeze through his semi-final round, against Concord’s Jatniel Ixtepan via fall at 2:52, straight to the first place round against West Noble’s Peyton Franklin. Franklin would go on to forfeit the match and first place spot to Moore.
