Victoria Garza appreciates that through every sport she has participated in at Penn High School, the team was always been accepting no matter how much experience she had in the sport.
“Penn Athletics tries its best to make everyone feel like family, and pushes their athletes to perform to the best of their ability,” said Garza, who played Rugby and Basketball.
Garza would like to be remembered as a humble athlete who consistently pushed herself to be the best no matter her circumstances. She mainly wants to be remembered as who she is as a person, kind, supportive, and positive, rather than a good athlete.
Garza’s favorite Penn Athletics memory was shooting her first basket after recovering from an injury.
She was out for three months due to an injury the last season she played basketball. She is grateful for that memory of shooting a basket although it was her last season.
Garza was involved in many Penn Athletic opportunities. She played for the Penn softball team during the summer season. She participated in one season of Penn basketball, having to give it up due to an injury. The injury brought her to join Rugby three years later, and she said “it was the best decision I’ve made in high school.”
In the Future, she will be playing Rugby for four more years at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. She is majoring in business with a minor in music. She is forever grateful for what Penn Athletics has done for her and set her up for in the future.
