Hockey: Geisel enjoys breakout season

By CHASE PINCKERT

Before the fans could even take their seats in the packed Ice Box, Penn hockey player Jaxton Geisel had already tucked the puck into the attic of the net, slotting the first goal just minutes into the game and opening the floodgates for a Kingsmen demolition of the Marian Knights.

This electric yet characteristic performance from Geisel was a mere reflection of his eventual breakout season, in which he scored 12 goals and had 13 assists. These early goals became a pattern, and his junior campaign was defined by consistent production. Having already been a promising sophomore, he elevated and improved his game, rising through the ranks of the Black and Gold.

Geisel possesses a blend of talent, including his playmaking ability and quick release. His speed, paired with sharp shooting and elite vision, was a fusion of skill that facilitated and put him in a position to make an impact. Geisel shows an understanding of the game not often showcased by others his age. His ability to read the ice, awareness to find space, and hockey IQ played a major role.

Known as the “glue” of the team, Geisel receives high praise from his teammates.

“Geisel is one of those guys who brings everyone around him closer,” Kingsmen Senior Patrick Amico said. “He gave his all every practice, every game, and he really tied the guys together. He was gross with the puck, and the kid’s got heart for sure.”

Not only does Geisel seem to resonate well in the locker room, but he’s also become a fan favorite. His immense energy draws the crowd in and gives them a reason to stay on their feet.

Geisel’s success is no accident, and doesn’t result from a lack of effort. His offseason training consists of drills, club hockey, and lacrosse. Yes, lacrosse. Not only does he stay on the ice all winter, but he also sharpens his athleticism through another stick sport, giving him an edge when the season begins.
