As the Penn Kingsmen Gold hockey team claimed the City Tournament championship with a 5-0 victory against Marian, chants of ‘MVP’ rang out from the Ice Box bleachers.

Sophomore Jaxon Daigle left no doubt about who dominated the City final, scoring all five goals for the Kingsmen.

Daigle’s masterful role was a continuation of his play this season. He led the Kingsmen with 20 goals and had 14 assists for a total of 34 points this season. Jaxon, stepping up as a linemate to Seniors Patrick Amico and Caden Smith.

Last season, Daigle displayed potential as he led Penn Black in points with 30 goals and 17 assists. He helped Penn Black win the City tournament but Penn fell short of the state title to the Central Indiana Knights.

This season, Daigle played a key role for Penn Gold, helping Penn pull off a three-game sweep in the regular-season against rival South Bend St. Joseph.

“Finally beating St. Joe was one of my goals going into the season, and beating St. Joe all three times is probably one of the best moments of this year,” Daigle said.

Daigle earned the Penn Gold Rookie of the Year award for being the best first-year varsity player on the team.

“It was a great honor receiving this award, I think all the preparation and training I did over the summer paid off, not just by winning this award but the outcome of the season,” Daigle said.

Daigle was named second-team all conference, was selected to be a Captain for Team Indiana.

“I’m happy that I was able to represent Penn for Team Indiana and being selected Captain for that team and leading them. I’m also happy to be part of the second-team all-conference team.”

Daigle’s first season on the Varsity was a memorable one – from scoring five goals in the City Championship game, to earning Team Indiana Captain status.

Daigle has a bright and bigger future ahead of him.
