Wrestling: Penn’s Bennett named MVP for Northern Indiana Conference

Penn’s Dylan Bennett was voted MVP for the Northern Indiana Conference in Wrestling.

Bennett won the NIC tournament in the 126-pound weight class. He has pinned every opponent he has faced in the last four years at the NIC tournament except for the 2022 tournament where he won in the finals by decision. Bennett is a four-time Sectional Champion.

Penn High School had seven wrestlers earn 1st-Team All-NIC honors. These wrestlers include Ryan Schmidtendorff at 120, Dylan Bennett at 126, Angelo Vargo at 132, Zymarion Hollyfield at 175, Vincent Freeman at 190, Malachi Evans at 215, and Brody Brown at 285.

Penn also had three wrestlers make 2nd-Team All-NIC: Jesus Vargas at 106, Jake Petras at 138, and Christopher Scott at 157. Honorable Mentions included Aiden Whitten at 144 and Leonardo Santiago at 165.

Penn won the NIC Wrestling Tournament Team title.
