Spring workouts return for Kingsmen Football

The Penn Football program began their spring workouts Monday, April. This is big news considering the fact spring workouts did not happen last year due to COVID-19 issues. In these Spring Workouts, players will learn the plays and install them through 7-on-7 scrimmages against the offense and defense.

The practices happen Mondays and Wednesdays after school, as well as before school team workouts on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The practices are not required to attend, but they are a good way for players to get back with the team and get ready for the upcoming season. The practices are welcome for all players who will be playing football this season, but they are not 7-on-7 tournaments. These are strictly for the team to get better and work together.

Last year, due to the pandemic, the football team was unable to have these spring workouts, something that really affected the team.

“Last season we didn’t have these workouts and we didn’t have the chance to build that team chemistry and we didn’t get that extra time to go through different sets and formations and I think it showed,” said Anthony Turley, an upcoming Junior Safety for Penn.

With all the limitations due to the pandemic, it really rushed the learning process for the new players and they missed out on the opportunity that these Spring workouts bring.

“These practices really help develop leadership, every year is a new beginning with leadership,” Penn Head Coach Cory Yeoman said. “That bonding and cohesiveness that all great teams have is what happens during these early practices.”

The practices are not only used for learning the new plays and helping the players get a better understanding of the game but they also play a pivotal role in leadership and team bonding, something that is necessary for a winning team which is what Coach Yeoman and his staff strive for and succeed in doing every year.
