Penn’s freshmen football team took on the Marian Knights on the Everwise Freed Field, winning 27-0. This kept the Kingsmen’s undefeated season… bringing their record to 4-0.
Marian received the first kickoff but couldn’t make it very far, resulting in them punting early and Penn having the ball. Penn made their way down the field by the quarterback, Panayoti Limberopoulos (#12), running the ball, and passing to wide receiver, Mason Biernacki (#3).
Before the end of the first quarter, Limberopoulos was able to throw a clean pass to Biernacki who ran into the endzone for a 30-yard touchdown. This ended the first quarter 7-0.
In the second quarter, the duo replicated the same play and got another touchdown pass. For both these touchdown passes, Luke Cadotte (#10) scored the extra points.
Before the end of the half, Penn scores a 35-yard field goal kicked by Luke Cadotte (#10). Penn also barely misses a hail mary 60-yard pass for another touchdown. This ends the half at 17-0.
Penn did not slow down in the second half though, because Mason Biernacki was able to run an 80-yard touchdown after Marian’s kickoff. The extra point is good, kicked by Luke Cadotte.
Marian was able to get the ball close to their endzone, partly due to a 15-yard penalty to Penn for holding. However Marian turns over the ball at the 9-yard line due to an incomplete pass on 4th down. Penn gets the ball to midfield before the end of the 3rd quarter. Ending the third quarter at 24-0.
In the 4th quarter, Limberopoulos threw an interception to Marian however they were not able to get to the end zone before the clock ran out causing the game to end at 24-0.
When Penn offensive coach, Crist says offense was key in this game.
“I thought they (Marian)were a tough team, they played a few upperclassmen. Though our offense was able to get through them,” Crist said.
Next Thursday, the Penn Freshmen football team goes on the road to take on South Bend Adams, looking to maintain their undefeated season.
