The Penn Boys Wrestling Team placed sixth with a score of 114 at the Al Smith Invite in Mishawaka on December 29.
Six Kingsmen wrestlers placed at the meet.
Sophomore Ryan Schmidtendorff placed fifth in the 113 class, winning over Hobart High School’s Sophomore Seth Aubin.
In the 132 weight class Penn Junior Wesley Harper fell short of fifth place with a loss against Junior Tye Linser of Western High School in the fifth place match.
Penn High School’s dominant Junior Bryce Denton came up just shy of first place in the 138 weight class. Losing to Center Grove junior Reese Courtney, Bryce’s record was 18-1 after the invitational.
Penn Senior Evan Eutsey lost to Christian Washington of Crown Point in the seventh place match of the 145 weight class.
Penn Junior Zymarion Hollyfield placed sixth in the 170 class, losing to Junior Anthony Cashman II of Warren Central.
Penn Senior Peyton Kendall won the fifth place match over Trevi Conley of Peru High School.
Sophomore Penn Wrestler Corbin Beery expressed his feelings for the team and how they have done this season.
“I am really impressed with how the team has done, we’ve persevered through the season. Now that we are entering Sectionals everyone, including me, is really excited and prepared for the meet,” Berry said.
Berry also talked about the Al Smith invite held back in December.
“I don’t know too much about the meet, but I always know that the team is super excited to go there. They always seem to have this desire to perform really well whenever they attend the invitational,” Berry said.
The Penn Wrestlers start their run at the State Championship in February.
