After a big victory against Elkhart Memorial in the regional final, the Penn boys move on to a match in semi-state, against a very tough Fort Wayne Canterbury team. The game will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, in Warsaw.
Canterbury boasts a No. 3 ranking in the state, and a No. 8 ranking in the country. This season, Canterbury has a 17-1-2 record, very respectable taking into account the level of soccer being played in Indiana at the moment. Penn should come in with no fear, as the Kingsmen have beaten teams ranked ahead of them all throughout this season, and this game is nothing different.
Following a thrilling win at over South Bend St. Joseph last Thursday night, the Penn boys moved on to the regional final. After a double-over time game and penalty kicks, with only one day in-between, Penn had to come out strong on Saturday. The Kingsmen matched up against a Memorial squad that has been on a roll; knocking off Concord, the No. 26 team in the nation.
Penn went in confident, and it showed, as they defeated Elkhart Memorial 2-1. The eventual winner coming from the left foot of Edgar Botello early in the 2nd half. Penn continued its strong form, winning now an outstanding 15 games in a row. The boys are playing with some swagger, as they should be. Beating big rivals can have that effect on a team.
