Lucas Eshowsky: Family, Friends and Soccer

Lucas Eshowsky is a standout sophomore at Penn High School. He is a member of the Penn Boys Varsity Soccer team and has played a key role in the team’s success this season.

“I think that my family and friends have played the biggest role in shaping me to who I am today,” Eshowsky said. “Being and playing with different soccer teams also helped me develop as a person. I met a lot of my greatest friends through soccer and hope to continue to make many more.”

Eshowsky said his soccer career didn’t come without some challenges. He says being a smaller person, he often feels like he’s at a disadvantage on the field.

“I often come up against and have to face opponents who are much larger and older than me. This makes it tougher to win headers or any 50/50 balls,” Eshowsky said. “Because I am smaller and have shorter legs than most of the people that I face, I have faster acceleration and agility then them. This makes it easier for me to maneuver around them and get past defenders. Turning my weaknesses into strengths helped me turn into a way better soccer player than I was before.”

Eshowsky credits his coaches and teammates to his success on the field. He says communication is key when playing soccer.

“Having a good relationship with my teammates also lets me know that they will have my back and stand behind me if they need to. Having a good relationship with my coaches is also very important. Because I am very comfortable with the coaches here at Penn, I am able to receive feedback from them. This feedback will help me become a better soccer player because the coaches get to see me play and understand me the most,” Eshowsky said.

Chase Pinckert is a soccer teammate and friend of Eshowsky. He says Eshowsky is a great person on and off the field.

“Lucas has a big impact to the team on the field. In our latest game, Lucas scored a goal which helped us beat Goshen High School. Off the field, Lucas is also important because he is a great friend and teammate,” Pinckert said.
