NO. 13 Penn falls amongst top-ranked teams at the Culver Invitational

Heading into Saturday, the 13th-ranked Penn Kingsmen were looking to rebound after a tough couple of weeks. Performing much better as a team this week, but just coming up short against two cross country programs out of Indiana(Carmel and Northridge) and the Lagrange Lyons out of Illinois.

Leading off the Kingsmen for the second straight week was Jack Ryan. Ryan ran an astonishing 16:42 taking 19th overall. Ryan led from the gun for the Kingsmen but was followed closely by Matthew Givens who was just 11 seconds behind. The senior leader ran a 16:53 to take 26th overall in this prestigious invite. Both of these two headlined the Penn pack.

Penn’s chase pack was led by Kush Grewal who ran a 17:02 to take 31st place in an all-out battle at the end with another runner. Behind him was Brody Lederer, and Tanner Mammolenti. Lederer taking 4th for the Kingsmen running a 17:09, and Mammolenti taking 5th in 17:11 both placing 33rd and 34th to round out Penn’s scoring bunch. Other notable performances include Kale Grewal and Jack Scalise separated by merely 3 seconds.

Penn’s Freshman/Sophomore group featured a huge win in their respective division. Ethan Schafer, and Garett Probst placing 3rd and 4th in 17:33 in an all-out battle for that top 3 spot. Other notable performers were Jackson Boyce, Nate Hannah, John Gutierez, Caleb Hubbard, and Owen Newman.

The reserve race concluded to cap off a day of hard effort by the Kingsmen. Brett Spriggs led running a 17:49 and taking 4th overall. Other top performers were senior leader Noah Shafer, Scott Eubank, Oliver Dvorak, Landon Graves, and Luke Petras.

After a day’s worth of work, it was safe to say that the Kingsmen left hungry as they look to claim yet another conference championship next week.
