Wyatt Berger is a Sophomore Offensive Lineman for the Fighting Kingsmen Team from Grissom Middle School. Berger is a Left Tackle on the 2-1 Penn Football Team.
Where does your love for Football come from?
It comes from the variety of people in the sport and the history behind it and the enjoyability of the sport itself. Just how much fun you have playing.
Do you have a soft-spot for Marian because of your father’s football career there?
Not now, no. Not anymore. Maybe in middle school you could have said that but now that I’m at Penn, that’s a whole different thing now.
What about your position do you think goes unnoticed by the average fan in the stands?
Whenever you look at fantasy football, whenever your running back has a good performance, it’s probably because your O-Line already did most of the work, so, a lot of it goes, basically all of it goes unnoticed.
Do you ever wish to play a different sport?
I do play different sports but really the only other sport that I wish I could’ve started a long time ago would be hockey. I would love to play hockey but it’s just one of the things you have to grow up playing.
Do you do any sports outside of Football?
I do Rugby and I do wrestling, too. Both for Penn.
Does anything you do with Rugby or Wrestling translate to your football position?
Rugby definitely helps with the physicality of football and definitely the conditioning as well, while wrestling slims me down a little bit and makes me a little faster.
What are your goals for your athletic career for Penn?
For Penn, It’s really just to go out for all my sports and help the team win in every way I can.
When you lack motivation what keeps you going?
Just “Gotta Keep Going”. Just the mindset. Even if you lose motivation you gotta keep going.
How do you deal with the stress of being on the team?
There’s a lot of stress but you just got to go out there and do what you do and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. Just gotta do what you practice for, play how you practice.
What are the weakest points of the OL and how does your coach work to strengthen Penn’s linemen?
Well I would say our weakest points can be the basics. You know, sometimes we stand up, or we don’t take the right steps and that’s just a mental thing, but we gotta be locked in every single day. We’ll only get better with that as the season progresses.
