Getting to Know: Mason Wilson

Mason Wilson a senior athlete at Penn and stays involved in sports throughout the year. Wilson plays Basketball, Football, and competes in Unified Track.

How do you mentally and physically prepare for the three sports that you play?: I usually prepare by making sure I get my mind right before the game. I also make sure I eat right and stay hydrated the night before as well as the day of the game. I also make sure I am focused in class on the day of the game.

What do you like about the sports you play?: I love the competition as well as the camaraderie with all of my teammates from every team. I also love the feeling when I step on the field, court, or track.

What traits define a team leader?: Some traits that define a team leader are someone who puts their teammates first, encourages their team, and keeps their team together through the ups and downs.

What advice would you give to freshmen about Penn athletics?: Some advice I would give would be to stick with it. If you love the sport you play keep going don’t give up on it. Even if you don’t play a bunch right away keep working hard and you will work your way up.

Who is someone that you look up to and why?: I look up to my Dad. I admire how hard he works for our family and the dedication and commitment he puts into everything he does.

Does playing one of your sports help prepare you for another?: Yes, I think that all of the sports I play translate to the others in one way or another. They all help with stamina and speed and basketball teaches me to get low, which is good in any sport.

Have sports helped you become a better person?: I think sports have definitely helped me become a better person. They have taught me how to work hard, be a good teammate, and put your heart into everything you do.

What’s the most important lesson that you have learned through playing sports?: The most important lesson I’ve learned is to never give up and that you can work your way up to the top as long as you put the effort in.

What goals do you want to achieve before the end of your high school career?: I want to win conference and sectionals this year for both football and basketball. I would also like to win sectionals in Unified Track as well.

How do you try and come back from a loss in any of your sports?: I come back from a loss by turning it into a learning experience and learning from my mistakes. As well as growing together more as a team.
