Getting to Know: David Son

David Son is a Senior at Penn High School. He is on the Swim and Dive team.

Why did you choose swimming as your sport?: I started swimming at a very young age and I really enjoyed the people and the environment, and it was a really good way to keep my mind off of stressful things.

Who is someone who does swimming (any level) that you look up to?: Leo Ni, because he keeps a positive attitude and strives to be better at every practice, while also keeping a student-athlete mindset.

What advice would you give to a Freshman about Penn Athletics?: Getting involved in a sport can spark friendships, provide a sense of sportsmanship, and you can represent yourself as a Penn Athlete.

What do you love about representing Penn High School: I love representing Penn because I can feel great knowing I can represent my school as a Penn athlete. Being a Penn athlete means I can show Penn pride in a positive light.

What are your pre-game rituals?: I like to listen to Baby Keem and eat a 6-inch steak and cheese sandwich.

Will you continue your sport after high school?: I don’t think I would swim competitively, I would probably swim club or get involved in some extracurricular activities involving swim.

What do you love about your sport?: I love the environment. For being in the water three hours a day, it definitely brings Penn Swim and Dive a lot closer together.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?: Travis Scott concert.

What is your favorite sports movie and why?:“Airbud”, because the dog can hoop.

What is a full day of eating like for you as a Penn Athlete?: In season, I usually eat about 3500-5000 calories a day. Making sure to keep a balanced, healthy diet while also providing energy for your brain will help you succeed as a student-athlete.
