Cole Bennett is a Senior Leader for the Kingsmen Football team. The Kingsmen are looking to have a victorious season, as they adjust under new head coach Pete Riordian.
What preparations are you making to help you become a college athlete?
I’ve started focusing more on eating well and properly. Also, I’ve been focusing more on critiques and advice from my coaches and taking those small details to heart on the field and in the weight room.
What made you fall in love with the sport?
My dad has always been a huge football fan and so has the rest of my family, so I grew up with & around it and watched a ton since I was younger and still do today.
How has the adversity you’ve faced this season pushed you to become a better athlete?
I’d say it’s helped me become more of a leader. As a team, when we face behavioral issues or tough losses, it forces me to step up and take the initiative to push everyone on the team to face the challenge and be better as a whole.
How have your coaches supported you throughout your football career?
Ever since I was younger, I’ve had great coaches who have helped me by giving me advice and guiding me through the process. They’ve taught me to never be satisfied and have always reminded me and pushed me to chase success.
What areas of weakness do you wish to improve on?
I’d have to say that I want to focus on my volume of conditioning and endurance to help me reach a certain level of athleticism that is essential to be successful in college football.
Who is your biggest idol/role model in your life & why?
My mom is my biggest role model because throughout her life she’s been through a lot and seeing that has taught me that you can be a strong individual by finding the good in the bad instead of focusing on the rough times.
How are you a leader for the younger athletes on the team?
The underclassmen aren’t always as comfortable and somewhat scared of the older guys, so I try my best by talking to them and encouraging them to be the best they can in hopes that they become a little less nervous.
What helps you stay focused through high-pressure situations?
Knowing that I have 10 other guys on the field alongside me, along with everyone on the sideline, reminds me that not only am I pushing through the stressful situations for me but for everyone else as well.
What is your pregame superstition?
Every time before games I get food with my friends to help us prepare.
How has your strength program helped you in your career?
Through my 4 years, Coach Cates has helped me drastically. I came into high school not one of the biggest kids. Since then our strength program has helped me become one of the strongest guys out of the male athletes by providing me with the components I needed to prosper.
