Penn’s defense struck for two Pick-6’s on Portage’s first two possessions and rolled to a 55-7 victory in the Sectional 1 opener. The Kingsmen improved to 10-0 and play in the Sectional 1 Championship Game at home against Crown Point on Friday, Nov. 7.
Ethan Horner returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown on the opening possession, and Colden Hernandez returned an interception 39 yards for a score as Penn opened up a 14-0 lead before the Kingsmen offense touched the ball.
Penn’s defense forced four turnovers and limited Portage to 75 yards of total offense.
Kingsmen quarterback Landon Hall was 4-of-5 passing for 136 yards and three touchdowns in less than two quarters of play.
Brayson Hurley caught TD strikes of 45 and seven yards.
Mason Biernacki hauled in a 49-yard TD pass from Hall.
Yoti Limberopoulos scored on a 28-yard run, Jaedon Parker scored on a 20-yard run and Blake Ewald scored on a one-yard run.
