Football: Family helps Horner add to Football legacy
Sophomore Ethan Horner made an impact for Penn’s Sectional Championship Football Team, getting in plenty of work as a defensive back.
Balancing practices, games, and schoolwork can be a lot sometimes, but Horner has learned how to handle it.
Even though it can be tiring, he says playing both sports is something he really enjoys.
Horner made two interceptions for the Kingsmen, including a Pick-6.
Growing up with two brothers – Vincent and Payton – who were Kingsmen Football standouts had a big impact on how Horner plays. The three of them were always competing with each other. Whether it was playing sports in the backyard or just trying to see who was better at something, there was always a challenge going on.
“Having two brothers definitely made me more competitive,” Horner said. “We were always trying to beat each other, and that pushed me to get better.”
Because his brothers were older, Horner also learned a lot by watching them. He said he would see the way they practiced or played and then try to do the same thing himself.
“I learned a lot just from playing with them,” Ethan said. “They would show me new moves or different ways to do things, and I would try it until I got it right.”
Hitting the books and hitting the opposition on the field is a challenge that Horner embraces.
“Sometimes it’s a lot to handle,” Horner said. “But I like staying busy and competing.”
For Horner, playing sports is not just about winning. It has helped him become more competitive, disciplined, and always looking for ways to improve.
