Boys Track: Penn tunes up with indoor meet at Purdue

The Penn Boys Track and Field team tuned up for the outdoor season by travelling to Purdue University for the 2018 Indoor High School Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, March 3, 2018. The events took place in Lambert Fieldhouse. The main goal of this meet was to get a good idea of the conditioning level of the team.

“We just wanted to put our team out there and see what we could do and see where we are at from a conditioning standpoint” said Penn long-distance coach, Tom Miller.

The Kingsmen gave it their best and are now looking forward to the outdoor track and field season.

“We just went out there to see where we were, and now we’re ready for the real season to begin” says Chad Piatt.

The Kingsmen also participated in the Trine Relays at Trine University on Saturday, March 10. It was another weekend of events for the team who was just looking to see what level they could compete on only one week after competing at Purdue University.

The meet was highlighted by the efforts of Penn’s 4×800 relay team, featuring Ricky Chapple, Chad Piatt, Colton Shail, and David Obert as they took third place overall in their heat.

Kevin Krutsch also had a great performance as he took second place in the high jump with a jump of 6-2.

Additionally, Penn’s 4×200 relay squad consisting of Andy Doty, Hayden Hurn, Jackson Weston, and Jack Demske took second place overall. The team was capable of proving their strength and depth throughout the first two indoor meets.
