Weston St. Clair has never really been the type to look for attention. Since middle school, he’s just been showing up, putting in the work, and getting better year after year in Cross Country and Track and Field.
Now a senior, St. Clair is having a great winter. After running varsity in Cross Country last fall, he is heading into track season with a clear goal: earn a postseason spot in the 4×800 relay.
Between practices, lifting, and extra running on his own, St. Clair has built a routine that doesn’t leave much room for shortcuts.
“A lot of it is just being consistent,” St. Clair said of running success said. “Even when you’re tired or don’t feel like it, you still have to get the work done.”
That mindset has made him someone his teammates rely on. He’s not the loudest guy on the team, but he leads in a way that people notice, especially the younger runners.
As one of the seniors, St. Clair has taken it upon himself to help underclassmen get comfortable, whether that’s during workouts or just helping them feel welcome.
“I try to talk to them as much as I can, to help them feel included,” St. Clair said. “When I was younger, having older guys to look up to made a big difference.”
Senior teammate Kush Grewal said that St. Clair has made an impact for Penn,
“Weston’s really stepped up this season,” Grewal said. “He’s a great leader for both Cross Country and Track, and you can tell he’s working hard every day trying to help us get to that end goal, a spot in June.”
Off the track, he’s just as focused. St. Clair keeps his grades up while taking tougher classes, knowing that what he does in the classroom matters just as much if not more as what he does at practice.
Next year, St. Clair plans to attend Cedarville University, where he’ll study biology on a pre-med track. His goal is to become a general physician.
“Being able to help people and make a real difference in my community is what motivates me the most,” St. Clair said.
For now though, St. Clair’s focus is on finishing his senior season down in Indianapolis. The 4×800 relay is a big target, and he knows it’ll take more than just one strong race to get there.
“It’s going to come down to all of us,” St. Clair said. “If we keep improving and run smart, I think we have a good chance.”
And if everything comes together, that could be enough to earn St. Clair one more race when it matters most.
