Boys Basketball: Penn’s Coolman named IBCA Player of the Week

Penn Boys Basketball All-State candidate Caleb Coolman has been named Player of the Week by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Coolman averaged 24.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in propelling the Class 4-A No. 14 Penn boys (14-3) to two victories the week of Feb. 2-7.

The 6-5 point guard opened with 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and one block in a 55-45 victory at Class 3-A No. 20 Marian, which also was the 300th career victory for coach and father Barak Coolman.

Caleb followed with 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and one steal as the Kingsmen defeated Chesterton 68-53. In the two games, Coolman sank 16-of-28 field goals, including 7-of-13 from long range, and 10-of-12 free throws.
