Boys Basketball: Kingsmen claim Sectional crown

Applegate’s 27 points spark Kingsmen

All-State candidate Noah Applegate muscled inside for 27 points and helped the Penn Kingsmen gut out a 63-60 victory against South Bend Adams to give the Kingsmen the Class 4-A Sectional 3 Championship on the Kingsmen court on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Penn’s Sectional crown is its 16th in Boys Basketball history and first since 2014.

Penn (22-3) takes on Chesterton (19-6) at 11 a.m. ET at Michigan City High School in Class 4-A Regional action on Saturday, March 9. Northridge (18-8) plays Munster (22-4) in the second game. The Regional Championship Game is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Michigan City on Saturday, March 9.

Applegate, a 6-foot-6 Senior Runner, battled for six rebounds to go with his 27 points.

Senior Point Guard Drew Lutz scored 14 points and dished out nine assists.

Beau Ludwick scored 10 points, and had five rebounds and five assists.

Kegan Hoskins scored eight points and had six rebounds.

Carter Hickey scored four points, had three assists, and played exceptional defense.
